Lantern

Mommy got some traditional paper lanterns from Chinatown a few weeks ago. During the "Farewell Moon" night, day 3 of the Moon Festival, mommy and daddy lit up the lanterns and hung them outside the deck. Joshua was amazed and sitting patiently on mommy's lap to watch the scene. Mommy tried to explain to him lanterns are special to the Moon Festival. He listened and nodded his head. One day Joshua will know how special he means to mommy.

16 Months

At 16 month, mommy is struggling to brush Joshua's teeth every night. He doesn't like being brushed all the time. Mommy has to get a wet cloth standby for wiping when a brush attempt is failed. Joshua continues to be a milk lover. Mommy is trying to limit his intake for no more than 24 oz daily. Drinking too much milk prevents him from eating or trying new food. He is still having bottle in the morning once. Sippy cup and Thermos with straw is given to him throughout the day. Mommy has determined to withdraw bottle by 18 month although Joshua still holds the record of draining 8 oz within 5 minutes! According to Dr. Ali, the nipple of bottle pushes the teeth in and it's bad to continue (mommy is doubting the impact of 5 min daily??). Anyway, Joshua doesn't need a bottle. He just drinks the fastest with it.

Joshua is loving carbs and eating more fruits. Occasionally he eats meat and veggie. His eating pattern varies from time to time. He tries and refuses new food at times. But Mommy knows his weight gain is steady.

He is more aware of the surrounding. When he goes to a new place and meets new people, he needs time to warm up. He shakes his head to signal "No" and nods for "Yes". He is waving less recently.

Joshua's nap time routine is changing. He has been skipping his afternoon nap a few times and he is ok until bedtime. It's getting harder for Josh to fall asleep at the Mall now as he is more excited with the surrounding. Unlike the past, he doesn't always nap during a ride in the car. He likes to look out the window and listens to his favorite rhymes. Sometimes Mommy wonders what his little brain is thinking.

Mommy is trying to take Josh to the Gym at least once a week. After skipping a few times, Josh has become a stranger to the area and refuses to play. Mommy needs to be consistent with the schedule.

Josh continues to outgrow his clothes. Currently he fits into 18 mo, 18-24 mo tops. Shoe size is 6-6.5. Mommy is getting his Fall clothing ready.

Mommy and aunt Neslie have been looking into Preschool for the boys. They will probably start school sometime next year. Potty training is the next big step to be accomplished. Joshua knows what pooping means but he is not ready to signal that upon happening. Mommy will keep monitoring him until he is ready.

World's Best Aunt's Birthday

Mommy is so thankful that Auntie Neslie helps caring for Joshua and preparing his daily meals in the morning. She really deserved the "World's Best Aunt" title and its photo frame of Joshua!!!

Academy of Sciences

Mommy and daddy couldn't make it (got there but free admission exhausted) to the Grand Opening of Academy of Sciences two years ago. Finally the day came when mommy's company announced the Summer Event location would be AoS!!! Together with por por, Auntie Neslie's family, and Godfather, Joshua was about to experience his first trip to a modern museum. There was a lot to see, including the Rainforest, the Planetarium, the Aquirium, and many more... the boys liked it and they probably learned what fishes are and more. Joshua and Anson both dressed up for a museum tour. Fishes vs. Lion/dinosaur print. We stayed there for 6 hours and it was all worth it.

Las Vegas

Bay Area has the coolest summer. To catch the last heat, Joshua went on his first trip to Las Vegas! He got an 'A' en route both ways. Josh sat patiently throughout the flight flying out and napped all the way coming home. It was the first time Josh was put in a highchair (no more booster) and ate with regular plate. He did not eat much other than carbs and fruits, but it was a good start in the new seat. He also got an 'A' for the early afternoon. However, he skipped his afternoon nap for two days and got fussy during dinner. Mommy and daddy had to rush eating and calmed him down. Josh failed for the late afternoon!

My boy was mesmerized by the neon lights in Vegas. He was stunned seeing the musical fountain at Bellagio. He wasn't very excited about the slot machines though (phewww! mommy was relieved!!!)

Joshua enjoyed floating in the water. He was excited and squealed a lot along the Lazy River. It was so relaxing resting on the beach chair. Weather was perfect with wind blowing gently. Mommy fell asleep while daddy walked Josh around the pool area.

First two nights, Josh was too tired and passed out in the hotel crib. Then he woke at 4 am the final night, cried, and refused to sleep in the crib. He was so loud that security had to call to make sure there was at least an adult in the room. To avoid further chaos, Josh was put in bed to share with mommy and daddy first time since birth. He tossed and turned and spun. Finally everyone made it to the morning! After a quick check-out, we headed to Paris for crepes and pastry for breakfast. Then final shopping at M&M and Coca Cola stores. The LV trip was memorable and we will definitely go back for the pool at Mandalay Bay!
