Music & Play Birthday Party

It was Olivia's Big 1 Party. The birthday girl was all excited and happy. She fit perfectly in her cute little 主人家 outfit! It was also Joshua's 1st music & play session. Along with Anson, the boys joined other kids and they had a blast! Mommy and daddy felt like having a gym session in the end. It was exhausting getting Josh around but it was so much fun.

9 Months

Joshua is 9 month old today! He is 19 lbs (25%) and 28 in (50%). His head is 17.5 in (25%) and W/L is 50% Josh was very patient being checked by Dr. Ali. He was relaxed and happy at the appointment. There was no crying when he received a shot of influenza. According to Dr. Ali, Josh may take up less food from 9-12 months. So far mommy has not noticed such a change. Stranger anxiety may also kick in. Josh had a few episodes of it when he was 5-7 months and it may come back anytime.

Lately Josh squeals and babbles a lot to get attention. He frowns less and smiles more now. Mommy loves to see his two dimples and the two halfway sprouted teeth. He is very active playing around. He can sit, crawl, and stand seamlessly everywhere. He can even cruise around when holding on something. With a toy in hand and mommy’s distraction, he wiggles less when being changed.

Mommy started Josh with chicken and he likes it. He will have turkey and beef soon. He enjoys food and he takes water with a sippy cup now. As Josh likes to shovel everything into his mouth, Mommy has to ration him a few pieces at a time. He can finish quite a lot while sitting his booster at a restaurant. He recognizes food and expresses a “give-me-a-bite” look when someone (usually Auntie Neslie) is eating.

Auntie Neslie is Josh’s favorite person. In a few occasions, he called out, “Ah yi, ah yi, ah yi” when seeing her. He doesn’t say that with others. When daddy says “mama”, he knows where to look. But Josh has not said anything close to “mama” yet. The day is yet to come. When Josh’s being called, he will turn to respond. When he looks into a mirror, he will smile to the “baby” whom he doesn’t know it’s himself.

Recently he takes shorter naps during daytime. Instead he spends longer time playing with Anson around! The boys are getting along well so far. No fights or bites yet. When we go out, Josh likes to nap riding in the car. Mommy and daddy are very grateful for Josh’s development. He will be continuously cared and loved for who he is.

Early Valentine's gift

Daddy surprised mommy by sending early Valentine's flowers to her company. A message was sent along from "Your hubby & little Josh". It really made mommy's day more enjoyable. A colleague took this photo for her.

1st touch of grass

Storm after storm. It's been raining on and off for weeks. Finally there was sunshine on a Sunday! The boys were out for a walk. Before strolling to the nearby park, we paused at the lawn in front of the Wongs. It was Josh's first experience with the cool, moist, fuzzy grass. He had this funny look when mommy placed him on the lawn. P.S. By the time we arrived at the park, Mr. Josh fell asleep at the spot!!!

Eating Squash

Josh sits his booster chair and eats with mommy and daddy at dinner time every day. He likes food in general. So far there is nothing he refuses to eat. His recent favorite is diced tofu. Mommy gives Josh ordinary and organic food. He can now pick up tiny peas and corns. His little fingers are getting more skillful.

8 months

Joshua is eight months old today! It was like yesterday when I could hold my baby in one arm to nurse him. Time flew and he is now stretching across my lap…

Josh keeps having good appetite and his new record is finishing 10 oz of milk at once. He sleeps well overnight and he is ok being woken by us every morning (6 am; M-F) and during nap time. He sleeps wherever, whenever when going out. It’s getting harder to change him as he likes to flip over at times. Mommy has to distract him by singing his favorite songs like ABC, Twinkle twinkle little star, BINGO, small world…etc. Mommy is never a good singer but Josh admires her. Hahaa… Mommy has to learn more nursing rhymes to soothe Josh.

Josh takes solid food well and he has been trying many fruits/veggie by now. Soon he will have more finger foods such as diced tofu, diced avocado, more cereal snacks, etc. Mommy will start giving Josh yogurt and cottage cheese. By the end of 8 months, he will have a first taste of meat! Josh is sitting his booster chair when dining out with mommy and daddy. He is being trained to sit through the meal. The longest time was two hours so far. Of course cereal snacks and booster toys are the tricks to keep him in the seat. There are good times and cranky times but the ultimate goal is having meal together as a whole family.

Josh is capable of learning. Mommy has taught him “five” (high five) and “錫錫 mama”. When mommy says “five”, he will raise his little hand. When mommy says “錫錫 mama”, he will reach mommy’s face with his hand. Mommy also taught him how to get down from a standing position by first kneeling or sitting down. When mommy reads to him, he pays attention and listens. Mommy is so proud of him!!!

Mommy keeps up breastfeeding even her supply can no longer match Josh’s increasing demand. The goal is still 9 months! In the meantime, Joshua has no problems taking bottle or formula. Hopefully the transition will be ok.

Josh finally has his 1st pair of teeth budding from the lower front!!! He is a little fussier before bedtime. Other than that he has been ok tolerating teething. Mommy gave him the teething ring but he prefers sucking his fingers to relieve the pain. Good job, baby!

Crawling & Standing

Jan1 - Playtime

Joshua is getting more interested in toys lately. Of course mommy's favorite toys for him are "book-related".

Jan4 - Crawling and Standing

Josh doesn't like crawling. Instead he wants to stand. He can now push himself to a standing position.

Snack time

Dec23 - Snack time...

Snacking is a perfect time for learning. Josh is learning to coordinate his fingers to pick up small objects while he is practicing to mash on the easily dissolved puffs. Aunt Neslie has been training him and cousin Anson is a good model for him.

1st impressions of apple

Dec12 - 1st impressions of apple

Out of all the fruits/veggie he has tried, Josh doesn't quite like apple. Also apple is the only food that makes him constipate if taking alone. Josh has no bowel problems if eating apple with other food.
