We survived the First Week!

Joshua is a one-week-old baby today. He is growing and every day he looks different. Sometimes he is easy going but he also has his cranky moments! We are keeping track his feeding schedule and peeing/pooing frequency. There is no regular pattern established at this point. He wakes up randomly and sometimes it is so difficult to wake him. The only thing we found out so far is that he doesn't like dirty diapers. He gets cranky whenever he wets his diaper even with the minimum amount. It's a zero tolerance for him. He cries the loudest at changing diaper.

I am breastfeeding Josh. He is fed every 2-3 hours. Ken and I are on a standby mode 24/7. There is no night or day. Some nights Ken and I feel like dreaming when waking up in the dark. We take naps whenever Josh is sleeping. Luckily we don't have to worry about food. Family members keep bringing us food and we have plenty to eat. I am doing fine after a week. Hopefully, my body will return to its pre-pregnancy state soon. At this time, I am only responsible for the feeding part. Ken is in charge of changing diapers/clothes, burping and the rest. He is a great dad and he wants to spend much bonding time with Josh before he gets back to work in two weeks. I will pick up the rest of the chores when daddy is not around.

  1. Bernice and Ken,
Congratulations on your first baby boy. All of us [from Modesto] are very happy for you. We can't wait to meet Joshua. He is darling.

My friend's baby boy cried loudly during changing as well. We resolved it by warming up the wipes. This might work for Joshua too.

    Take care.

    Best,
    Susan Lu
